Police Still Question Witness SU in Prabowo Tapping Case
The National Police’s Criminal Investigation Agency is still questioning a police general identified by the initials SU, who remains a witness in a case concerning the alleged illegal tapping of President Prabowo Subianto’s phone.
National Police Criminal Investigation Agency chief Commissioner General Asep Safrudin confirmed that three serving generals had been named as suspects in the case.
The three are former National Police chief and current Head of the Presidential Staff Office Listyo Sigit Prabowo (LSP); National Police Legal Division head Inspector General Ahrie Sonta Nasution (ASN); and Inspector General Eko Hadi Santoso (EH), a senior instructor at the National Police Education and Training Institute’s Sespim school.
“One other person is still being questioned as a witness, namely SU,” Asep said at a press conference on Tuesday evening, 3 November.
Asep said the three suspects allegedly carried out the operation between 2025 and 2026, ordering phone tapping without following procedures. Several numbers were reportedly entered into police interception equipment without verification, including President Prabowo’s number.
“Those numbers were then tapped without any connection to, or process of, law enforcement,” he said.
In October 2026, the suspects deleted files containing the intercepted recordings. Officers who became aware of the action filed a report on 30 October 2026.
Separately, Coordinating Minister for Legal Affairs, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Yusril Ihza Mahendra said the alleged tapping of Prabowo by several senior police officers was not a simple matter, but a serious issue for the state.
“Imagine a president being intercepted and tapped; imagine ministers being tapped, and we do not actually know why the tapping was carried out. This is not a simple matter; it is a serious issue for a state,” Yusril said at a press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday, 3 November.
Yusril said President Prabowo had learned that he was a victim of tapping after being informed by National Police chief General Suyudi Ario Seto.
