Police Still Investigating Civilian Involvement in KontraS Acid Attack Case
The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) states that investigators from Metro Jaya Regional Police are still examining the alleged involvement of civilians in the acid attack case against KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus. This was confirmed by Komnas HAM Monitoring and Investigation Commissioner Saurlin P Siagian to address questions about actors behind the terror act beyond the military suspects. “Metro Jaya Regional Police are still delving into the involvement of non-TNI parties and continuing the investigation process,” Saurlin said at Komnas HAM in Central Jakarta on Monday (30/3). The investigation into civilian actors is proceeding alongside legal processes implicating several military personnel suspected of acting as executors. Regarding this, Saurlin explained that the police have established intensive inter-agency coordination to ensure the case investigation is transparent and thorough. “Metro Jaya has submitted several documents needed by the TNI side. That’s what we received,” Saurlin clarified. Komnas HAM summoned Metro Jaya Regional Police to delve into the Andrie Yunus case today, Monday (30/3). As a concrete step in fact-gathering, Saurlin revealed that they have completed the agenda of seeking clarification from the police investigators. “Today we received statements for about three hours from Metro Jaya Regional Police regarding what they have done, the investigations conducted, and the future steps to be taken by Metro Jaya Regional Police,” Saurlin said. The intensive meeting was also attended by the Director of General Criminal Investigation (Dirreskrimum) of Metro Jaya Regional Police along with their team to explain the progress of case handling. Saurlin assessed that the presentation and coordination provided by the police so far have given an adequate picture to their team. “So we’re focusing on that, and we’ve also obtained a lot of information from Metro Jaya Regional Police; we think it’s sufficient,” Saurlin said. Although most crucial points have been addressed, the investigation by Komnas HAM’s monitoring team does not stop with today’s meeting. Saurlin emphasised that their institution will continue to demand complete files to construct a full legal framework for the crime. “The facts we still need have been conveyed in some aspects, and we’re still requesting a few more items from Metro Jaya Regional Police to be submitted to us,” Saurlin explained.
