Jakarta — Police say that the rights of the suspect in the alleged consumer protection and beauty product and care violations case, Dr Richard Lee, are being fulfilled during his detention. ‘During detention, the rights of the individual remain fulfilled in the same manner as other suspects undergoing detention, including the right to observe fasting and suhoor,’ said the Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Senior Commissioner of Police Budi Hermanto, on Sunday, 8 March 2026. He also noted that there has been no request to suspend detention. He is currently held with other detainees at the Metro Jaya Police Detention Centre. ‘There has been no request for remand suspension conveyed through his legal counsel,’ he added.

The Metro Jaya Police have detained Dr Richard Lee (DRL) for obstructing the investigation into alleged consumer protection violations related to beauty products and care. The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, in an official briefing in Jakarta on Friday (6/3), stated that there are two grounds for the detention on Friday night. ‘First, the suspect did not attend an additional examination on 3 March 2026 without providing a clear explanation. On that day, the suspect was ’live’ on a TikTok account,’ he said. ‘Second, the suspect also failed to comply with mandatory reporting on Monday, 23 February 2026 and Thursday, 5 March 2026 without a clear reason.’

‘Based on these matters, the suspect DRL was detained at 21:50 WIB at the Metro Jaya Police detention facility,’ said Budi.

Richard Lee was named a suspect on 15 December 2025 in connection with the alleged consumer protection violations relating to beauty products and care. In the police report registered under LPB Number 7317/XII/2024/SPKT/Polda Metro Jaya, Richard Lee is accused of violating a number of articles. First, Article 435 in conjunction with Article 138(2) of Law No. 17 of 2023 concerning Health with a maximum prison term of 12 years and a maximum fine of Rp5 billion. Then, Article 62(1) in conjunction with Article 8(1) and Article 9(1) of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection with a maximum prison term of five years and a maximum fine of Rp2 billion.
