Police have disclosed that the fatal assault of an Indonesian Army soldier, identified by the initials ABS, in the Kelapa Dua area of Tangerang Regency was triggered by a dispute over a queue for taichan satay.

Tangerang Selatan Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Wira Graha Setiawan stated that the altercation began when the suspects ordered four portions of taichan satay at a stall. The victim, who was a regular customer of the satay seller, then became involved in a verbal argument with the suspects regarding the queue order.

According to witness examinations, the argument escalated after an issue arose concerning the number of skewers in one portion. The quarrel subsequently led one of the suspects, identified by the initial S, to strike the victim first.

“The motive was a misunderstanding that started because of a scramble over the taichan satay queue, a quarrel ensued, and suspect S hit the victim first,” Wira told reporters on Friday (24/7).

Wira mentioned that police have examined several witnesses, including the victim’s colleagues who were at the location prior to the incident, as well as the taichan satay seller who witnessed the event.

As the investigation progresses, the number of suspects has increased from four to seven individuals. Three people who were previously considered witnesses have now been named as suspects after investigators conducted further examinations and a case conference.

Wira said the determination of the three individuals’ status was made after investigators found sufficient evidence to implicate them in the case.

The suspects are charged under Article 458, Article 262, and Article 466 paragraph (3) of the Criminal Code, with the threat of punishment corresponding to their respective roles in the criminal act committed.

Previously, the body of the Indonesian Army soldier ABS was discovered in the Kelapa Dua area, Tangerang Regency, on Sunday (19/7).
