Police Showcase Electric Vehicle Prototypes for 80th Bhayangkara Day

In celebration of the 80th Bhayangkara Day, the Indonesian National Police (Polri) showcased prototypes of vehicles converted from fossil fuels to battery-based electric power. Polri demonstrated the electric vehicles as part of the event. Head of the Polri Research and Development Centre (Kapuslitbang), Inspector General Ruddi Setiawan, stated that this initiative is a tangible form of support for accelerating President Prabowo Subianto’s priority strategy on energy transition. “Polri is initiating the development of an innovation ecosystem for converting fossil-fuel vehicles to battery-based electric vehicles within the police force. We act as a facilitator for research and assessment that will bridge the growth of this conversion technology mastery,” said Inspector General Ruddi in a statement on Wednesday (1/7/2026). In this pilot project, Puslitbang Polri has built solid research collaboration with ministries, agencies, academics, and industry players to unite Indonesian technocrats. The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) is focusing on developing an independent propulsion system, including electric motors, battery packs, chargers, DC-DC converters, and BMS, as well as supporting electrical innovations like power steering and power braking. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Kemdikti Saintek) is concentrating on battery technology research, innovation, and vocational curriculum development to support the electric vehicle industry. Puslitbang Polri engineers with competencies in metallurgy, electronics, machinery, and transportation are working together with PT Lentera Bumi Nusantara, CV Hidtech Group, PT Braja Elektrik Motor, and CV E-Clont Energy. “During the research activities, we used an engineering design and descriptive qualitative approach. This collaboration aims not only to produce prototypes but also to formulate standardisation, prototype development, and certification,” Ruddi explained. At the exhibition, Polri displayed seven converted operational vehicles, consisting of two double-cabin four-wheeled vehicles and five naked sport-type two-wheeled vehicles commonly used within the police force. This conversion step was taken because Polri owns and uses many fossil-fuel-based operational vehicles spread across Indonesia. Through this project, Polri’s fossil-fuel vehicle assets will not be left idle or abandoned. “In this context, Polri is present as a positive captive market, while also acting as an anchor demand and a legal accelerator. This agreement proves there is a definite market to drive business activity, as well as providing an educational space for other electric vehicle users in Indonesia,” Ruddi concluded.
