Police Show Solidarity with Waste Pickers Near Burangkeng Landfill Through Social Aid

The Indonesian National Police (Polri) held a social service event for the community around the Burangkeng Final Disposal Site (TPA) in Setu District, Bekasi Regency, on Friday, 19 June 2026. The activity was a gesture of the police force’s concern and part of the 80th Bhayangkara Day commemoration. The social assistance was distributed to residents whose daily livelihoods depend on waste management and sorting activities in the Burangkeng TPA area. Kombes Pol Mariochristy P.S Siregar, Head of the Accident Sub-directorate at the Traffic Corps, attended on behalf of Polri and expressed appreciation for the community members who continue to work hard and remain productive despite various limitations. “We are quite proud of the men and women here. From items that many people might consider unusable, you are able to generate value again. That is something positive and worthy of appreciation,” he said. Mariochristy also stated that the aid provided was a form of Polri’s attention to people who continue to struggle to meet their families’ needs amidst life’s challenges. On the occasion, he also asked the community for their prayers so that in its 80th year of service, Polri could continue to improve the quality of its service, protection, and guardianship of the public. “Hopefully, at the age of 80, Polri will be increasingly capable of serving, protecting, and safeguarding the community,” he said. Dede Kania (41), a Burangkeng resident who sells coffee from her home daily, expressed gratitude for the assistance she received. She noted that the recent rise in staple food prices has been felt by her family, making the aid very helpful for household needs. “Alhamdulillah, assistance like this is very helpful and can ease the burden on housewives. Especially now that economic conditions are difficult and many prices of necessities have gone up,” she said. The mother of three also expressed hope that Polri would continue to be present in the community and become closer to residents. “My hope is that Polri will be more protective of the community, more successful, and more advanced,” she added. Ratnasari (27), a housewife whose husband works around the Burangkeng TPA, shared a similar sentiment. She said the social assistance from Polri was very meaningful for her family, especially amidst rising staple food prices.
