Bandung – West Java Regional Police have confirmed they will show no leniency towards Taufik Hidayat, the 30-year-old suspect in the confinement and torture case of YTR (29). Police have opted to file multiple charges against him, deeming his actions exceptionally sadistic. The decision was made after investigators completed their initial examination of Taufik, who was arrested after fleeing to the Tangerang area. In this case, the suspect is charged with violating Article 466 Paragraph (2), Article 451, Article 446 Paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 126 Paragraph (2), and Article 23 of the Criminal Code under Law Number 1 of 2023. He faces a maximum prison sentence of 12 years. West Java Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, stressed that the layered charges were applied because investigators believe the suspect’s actions cannot be viewed as ordinary violence. “Looking at the incident and his actions, this suspect’s behaviour is abnormal, sadistic, and a form of violence we all condemn. For this reason, the West Java Police will maximally charge the suspect with the heaviest possible articles,” he stated on Friday, 26 June 2026. Rudi admitted that the case involving YTR is a serious concern for the West Java Police. He stated that women should receive protection and a sense of security, not become victims of violence. “We express our deep sorrow and concern over this incident in the West Java region. Our women should be in a state of safety and protection. This is a concern for all of us,” he said. Based on preliminary investigations, YTR was allegedly confined and abused for years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. As a result of the alleged violence, the victim suffered severe injuries to several parts of her body, impairing her ability to speak, hear, and walk. It was previously reported that the flight of Taufik Hidayat, the man suspected of confining and torturing his girlfriend for three years in Bandung, has finally ended. After being a fugitive hunted by a joint team from the West Java Police, the suspect was successfully apprehended by the police. This arrest marks a crucial point in the investigation of a case that has recently drawn significant public attention, as the victim, YTR, was found in a deplorable condition with severe injuries believed to be the result of prolonged violence.
