Police Show No Leniency for Taufik Hidayat, File Multiple Charges
Bandung, VIVA – The West Java Regional Police have confirmed that they will show no leniency towards Taufik Hidayat (30), the suspect in the case involving the confinement and torture of YTR (29).
Police have opted to charge him with multiple articles after determining that the perpetrator’s actions were classified as sadistic. This decision was made after investigators completed the initial examination of Taufik, who was previously arrested after fleeing to the Tangerang area.
In this case, the suspect is suspected of violating Article 466 Paragraph (2), Article 451, Article 446 Paragraph (2) juncto Article 126 Paragraph (2), as well as Article 23 of the Criminal Code under Law Number 1 of 2023. The potential prison sentence reaches up to 12 years.
The West Java Regional Police Chief, Inspector General Rudi Setiawan, emphasised that the application of multiple charges was necessary because investigators believe the suspect’s actions cannot be viewed as ordinary violence. “Looking at the events and the actions, this suspect’s behaviour is unnatural and sadistic—violence that we all condemn. Therefore, the West Java Regional Police will apply the heaviest possible charges against the suspect,” he stated on Friday, 26 June 2026.
Rudi admitted that the case involving YTR is a serious concern for the West Java Regional Police ranks. He noted that women should receive protection and a sense of security, rather than becoming victims of violence. “I express my deep sorrow and concern regarding this incident occurring in the West Java region. Our women should all be in a state of safety and protection. This is a matter of concern for us all,” he said.
Based on preliminary investigation results, YTR is alleged to have been confined and abused for several years in a boarding house in the Cileunyi area, Bandung Regency. As a result of the alleged violence, the victim suffered severe injuries to various parts of her body, which have impaired her ability to speak, hear, and walk.
It was previously reported that the flight of Taufik Hidayat (30), the man suspected of confining and torturing his own partner for three years in Bandung, has finally come to an end. After being a fugitive and hunted by a joint team from the West Java Regional Police, the suspect was successfully apprehended by the police. This arrest marks a significant turning point in the investigation of a case that has recently captured public attention, as the victim, YTR (29), was found in a distressing condition with numerous severe injuries believed to be the result of prolonged violence.
