Police shoot two robbers dead

JAKARTA (JP): Police shot dead on Thursday night two members of a gang who had allegedly robbed several passengers on a Metromini bus plying the Tanjung Priok-Pulogadung route.

The two men, Jabotan Butar Butar, 29, Miduk Aritonang, 30, were shot at Tanjung Priok bus terminal, North Jakarta, for resisting arrest and attacking police officers with knives, North Jakarta Police detective chief Adj. Comr. Agus Sulistiyo said.

Agus announced the arrest was based on a report filed by Mahmudi, who complained that a group of 10 armed men boarded the Metromini bus, which was only carrying five passengers at the time, and robbed them.

Based on the tip, Agus said, police managed to arrest three suspects, who later told police about the whereabouts of the other seven, including Jabotan and Miduk.

Agus said the two were shot as they resisted arrest and tried to attack police officers with their knives despite repeated warning shots fired by the police. (01)
