Police shoot thief
JAKARTA (JP): A plainclothes police officer shot a man for robbing a bank customer yesterday on Jl. Bendungan Hilir, Central Jakarta.
Eyewitnesses said the man, later identified as Krisnadi, allegedly robbed a bank client of Rp 2 million in front of the Rajawali bank.
Police said Krisnadi, with two accomplices, "attacked" Prasetyo, who had just withdrawn his monthly salary from the bank.
"Krisnadi grabbed the right leg of Prasetyo, who was leaving the bank, while another man stole the money from Prasetyo's left pocket and handed it over to another man, who escaped when a plainclothes officer shot Krisnadi," an officer said.
Krisnadi was taken to a nearby hospital, while the two accomplices made off with Prasetyo's money.
Area residents said it was the third robbery in the spot this week. (icn/sur)
