Police Shoot Suspect's Leg as He Tries to Escape During Arrest in Kalideres, West Jakarta

Police shot a motorcycle theft suspect, identified as RD, in the leg in Kalideres, West Jakarta. The decisive action was taken as RD attempted to flee when officers moved to apprehend him following case development on Saturday, 23 May 2026. ‘Correct, it was RD who was shot,’ explained Kalideres Police Chief Kompol Rihold Sihotang during a press conference at the Kalideres Police Station on Monday, 25 May 2026. RD is one of five members of a motorcycle theft ring apprehended by Kalideres police. The other four suspects, PM, MA, YD, and AH, were also arrested at their respective residences. They played varying roles, from perpetrators to fence. ‘We have apprehended suspects involved in the theft of motorcycles within the Kalideres subdistrict. The incidents occurred at various times, some in the afternoon, others at dawn, and repeatedly,’ said Rihold. In addition to arresting the suspects, police seized evidence including clothing worn during the crimes, T-shaped lock picks, mobile phones, and several vehicle registration certificates belonging to victims. Rihold explained that the gang operated in a planned manner with experience in theft. The suspects often targeted unattended motorcycles, exploiting victims’ inattention. Within seconds, they could disable and steal the targeted vehicles using T-shaped lock picks. Preliminary investigations identified seven crime scenes, all located in Tegal Alur Village. Some suspects admitted to committing thefts up to dozens of times, not only in Kalideres but also across West Jakarta and beyond. ‘Among the suspects, some operated four times, others nearly three times, and some over ten times within West Jakarta, not just in Kalideres subdistrict,’ he added.
