Police shoot drug trafficker

JAKARTA (JP): Kemayoran Police subprecinct detectives shot an alleged drug trafficker on Tuesday for resisting arrest in front of Dakota apartment block in Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.

Police chief, Adj. Comr. Rudolf Nahak, said the suspect, identified as 25-year-old Zainuddin, alias Freddy, who is widely known by his nickname as Ular (snake), suffered gunshot wounds to his back and was admitted to Kramatjati Police Hospital in East Jakarta.

Nahak said the suspect fled into bushes when he knew undercover police were about to trap him.

Zainuddin appeared an hour later but tried to escape again after seeing a group of police waiting for him. The police shot him in his back after he defied warning shots.

The police seized a package of shabu-shabu (crystal mentaphetamine) and Rp 1 million in cash from the victim, which Zainuddin admitted to have obtained after selling drugs for three months. (01)
