Police shoot dead gang leader

JAKARTA: Jakarta Police detectives chief Sr. Comr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri revealed on Tuesday that the police have managed to uncover a group of 15 robbers targeting offices and have shot dead the group leader.

"Azis Susilo, 28, the group's leader was shot dead at 11:30 p.m. on Monday evening on Jl. Kampung Tengah, Kramat Jati subdistrict, East Jakarta. He attempted to grab the police officer's pistol to flee ," he said.

The police have detained nine suspects, allegedly members of the group including a teacher of an elementary school in Jelambar, West Jakarta, named Yosef Maran and an Army officer, Adi Nawawi, who lent his gun in the robbery.

Bambang, however, said that five members of the group were still at large. "We will hunt them down." -- JP
