JAKARTA - The Secretary of the Indonesian NCB Interpol International Relations Division of the National Police, Brigadier General Untung Widyatmoko, stated that the sexual harassment suspect Sheikh Ahmad Al Misry alias SAM is still in Egypt.

“The individual in question, SAM, is still in Egypt,” Untung said in his statement to reporters on Wednesday (13/5/2026).

“That information is not true,” Untung added.

Untung emphasised that as of now, SAM remains in Egypt, and there has been no handover from local authorities to the Indonesian side.

According to him, Egyptian authorities have also not yet provided an official response regarding Indonesia’s request to facilitate the examination of SAM.

“As of today, the Egyptian authorities have not given an official response to our request to accommodate the examination of the individual as per the request from the TPPO investigators at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency,” Untung stated.

In that communication, the Egyptian authorities are said to still be trying to confirm SAM’s whereabouts.

“The response was only given by phone that they are currently searching for the exact position of where the individual is located in which province,” he said.

Untung also revealed that SAM is known to hold dual citizenship, Indonesian and Egyptian.

“Clearly, SAM holds dual citizenship, namely Indonesian and Egyptian,” he said.

Previously, information circulated among journalists claiming that Ahmad Al Misry would be flown to Jakarta via airline and brought to the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.

On the other hand, the complainant in the alleged sexual harassment case, Mahdi Alatas, previously claimed to have received information that Ahmad Al Misry had been detained by Egyptian authorities since 23 April 2026, one day after the case emerged in public.

“There (in Egypt), he has already been detained. Ahmad Misry was detained starting from the 23rd. So, the first time I spoke up was on 22 April, right? On the 23rd, he was detained,” Mahdi said at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency building in Jakarta on Monday (11/5/2026).

Mahdi stated that SAM was once released for one day before being detained again on 27 April 2026.

According to him, the detention is related to the report of the alleged sexual harassment being processed in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency has designated SAM as a suspect in the alleged sexual harassment based on the case review results from the police report received on 28 November 2025.

The case is being handled by the Directorate of Criminal Acts Against Women and Children and Human Trafficking Eradication (Dittipid PPA and PPO) at the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency.
