Police Send 2.5 Tonnes of Logistics to Earthquake Victims and Vulnerable Groups in NTT
The Indonesian National Police have sent around 2.5 tonnes of logistics and equipment, including food and supplies for vulnerable groups, to assist communities affected by the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The aid was dispatched together with 21 personnel from the Directorate of Police Animals and 10 K9 dogs using a Police Air aircraft from Pondok Cabe Airport to Labuan Bajo on Sunday (16/8).
Brigadier General Trunoyudo Wisnu Andiko, Head of Public Information at the Police Public Relations Division, said the logistics shipment is part of the police’s humanitarian operation to meet the needs of communities affected by the disaster. In addition to food and supplies for vulnerable groups, the logistics carried include SAR equipment, medicines, field tents, and 10 portable Wi-Fi units.
“The Police are continuing humanitarian efforts to provide assistance to communities affected by the earthquake disaster in East Nusa Tenggara,” said Trunoyudo. Meanwhile, the K9 team will assist in searching for victims and coordinate with the NTT Regional Police to determine priority locations, particularly in the Sikka, Manggarai, and East Manggarai areas.
The Police stated that personnel, K9 units, and logistical aid will be deployed according to developments and the needs of communities on the ground. The CN-295/P-4501 aircraft also carried 21 K9 team personnel, including handlers, veterinarians and K9 paramedics, as well as 10 K9 dogs with victim search capabilities.
Before departure, all K9 dogs were confirmed to be in healthy condition and ready to carry out their duties. Health checks were conducted by veterinarians and K9 paramedics, including ensuring physical condition, work readiness, feed requirements, equipment and kennels during the journey and field operations. The health readiness of the K9 dogs is an important part of ensuring the tracking dogs can work optimally in disaster terrain conditions that require high physical ability and concentration.
The aircraft was scheduled to depart from Pondok Cabe at 12.15 WIB and arrive in Labuan Bajo at approximately 17.05 WITA.
