Police seize ten tonnes of illicit liquor in Samarinda, detain 12 individuals
Samarinda (ANTARA) — Samarinda City Police (Polresta) foiled the distribution of approximately 10 tonnes of traditional Cap Tikus liquor transported by road in the early hours of Monday (23/2), detaining 12 individuals suspected of involvement.
“Our personnel secured a total of 247 sacks weighing 9,880 kilogrammes containing Cap Tikus liquor during a patrol operation,” said Head of the Samarinda Polresta’s Samapta Unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police (AKP) Baharuddin, in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, on Monday.
The case was uncovered after a joint team from the 110 Patrol Unit and Operasi Pekat Mahakam 2026 grew suspicious during a raid conducted at 00:10 local time (WITA).
During the operation, Baharuddin said, officers immediately stopped two trucks and one passenger vehicle that appeared suspicious as they passed through the area.
Officers on the ground promptly searched the trucks bearing registration plates AB 8102 JC and KT 8327 KL, as well as an Avanza passenger vehicle with plate number KT 1589 QT.
The inspection revealed that the first truck was concealing 113 sacks weighing 4,520 kilogrammes, whilst the second truck carried 133 sacks weighing 5,320 kilogrammes.
“Meanwhile, the passenger vehicle accompanying the illegal distribution convoy was found to be carrying one additional sack weighing 40 kilogrammes,” Baharuddin disclosed.
The dozen detained individuals include two persons in charge with the initials RS and FD, drivers, and a number of porters, he added.
“At present, all suspects along with the three vehicles used to transport the liquor have been taken to the Samarinda Polresta headquarters for further examination,” he said.
The Samapta Unit is now coordinating with the Samarinda Polresta’s Criminal Investigation Unit to conduct a thorough investigation and pursue further legal proceedings.
