Police seize ships with illegal sugar

PEKANBARU, Riau: Navy and police personnel have seized 12 ships carrying 5,700 tons of illegally imported sugar over the past several days in waters of Riau province.

The 12 ships, which were headed to Riau from Port Klang in Malaysia, were found to be carrying inadequately documented imported sugar.

Dumai Naval Base head Lt. Col. Nora Lelyana said on Saturday the Navy and the police were coordinating with the Dumai Customs and Excise Office to investigate the matter. -- JP
