Police seize sharp weapons and firecrackers from youth convoy in Tamansari
Jakarta (ANTARA) — Police seized 30 firecrackers, 15 bamboo poles or pipes, 15 group flags and a samurai sword from a youth convoy in the Mangga Besar area, Tamansari, West Jakarta.
“The evidence was secured whilst providing security along the ‘takjil on the road’ route by the youth group at the ‘traffic light’ Olimo, Hayam Wuruk Street, Mangga Besar, West Jakarta and Mangga Besar Raya Street on Sunday (15 March),” said Tamansari Metro Police chief Kompol Bobby M. Zulfikar when confirmed in Jakarta on Monday.
Bobby stated that the security operation was conducted in response to public complaints that were disturbed by the youth convoy activities carrying group attributes and firecrackers.
Police officers acted on reports of public unease regarding convoys of vehicles by several youths carrying group flags and firecrackers.
“During the security operation, officers also discovered a samurai sword which we immediately secured,” he said.
He emphasised that takjil-sharing activities are positive during Ramadan.
“However, it must be conducted in an orderly manner, without forming convoys and without carrying attributes or items that could potentially cause security disturbances on public roads,” he said.
