Police Seize Giant Safe from South Jakarta Cafe in Joint Corruption Probe

A joint team of Indonesian National Police investigators seized four suitcases, a safe, a money counting machine, and a cash box during a search of the de’Clan Signature cafe in the Cipete area of South Jakarta on Wednesday (8/7/2026). The investigators were seen removing a small red suitcase, a medium-sized blue suitcase, and a medium-sized black suitcase from the premises. A money counting machine was also carried out of the cafe. A safe was transported using a Mobile Brigade Corps (Brimob) tactical vehicle. Earlier, investigators had also removed a box containing cash, which was taken away in a white vehicle belonging to the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate. Police searched the cafe, a money changer, and several other locations on the same day. The searches are related to at least three cases. The head of the National Police’s Corruption Crime Eradication Corps, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the investigations are being conducted as a joint investigation with the Metro Jaya Police’s Special Criminal Investigation Directorate. He said the cases involve alleged corruption in coal procurement that triggered a blackout, the ASABRI case, and the settlement of debts from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of the state-owned enterprise Krakatau Steel.
