Police Seize Four Suitcases and a Safe in Raid on de'Clan Cafe

Police have raided the de’Clan Signature cafe in the Cipete area of South Jakarta in connection with three corruption cases, seizing four suitcases and a safe. Members of the Mobile Brigade (Brimob) were seen securing the location on Wednesday evening as investigators carried out the search. The items confiscated included a small red suitcase, a medium blue suitcase, a medium black suitcase, and a large, heavy black suitcase that required three investigators to carry. A money counting machine and a safe were also removed from the premises and transported in a Brimob tactical vehicle. Earlier, investigators had taken a box containing money away in a white vehicle belonging to the Polda Metro Jaya Special Criminal Investigation Directorate.

Police conducted searches at the cafe, a money changer, and several other locations on the same day. The searches are related to at least three separate cases. The head of the National Police’s Corruption Eradication Corps, Inspector General Totok Suharyanto, stated that the investigations are being handled jointly with the Polda Metro Jaya Special Criminal Investigation Directorate. The cases involve alleged corruption in the procurement of coal that triggered blackouts, a case at the armed forces insurer ASABRI, and the settlement of debts from PT CBS to PT KNI, a subsidiary of state-owned steelmaker Krakatau Steel.

Polda Metro Jaya Public Relations Head, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, emphasised that the investigation into the alleged corruption at PLN, ASABRI, and Krakatau Steel has the direct attention of President Prabowo Subianto. He stated that the series of searches is part of the investigative process to find and collect evidence. The cases under investigation encompass bribery, gratuities, and money laundering.
