Police seize firecrackers, alcohol
SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: East Kalimantan Police announced on Wednesday that they had confiscated approximately 57,000 firecrackers and 1,000 bottles of alcoholic beverages in raids launched throughout the city during the fasting month of Ramadhan.
So far, however, they have failed to arrest the main distributors.
"The operation began two weeks ago and thousands of firecrackers have been destroyed," said Sudjarno, a deputy police chief in Samarinda.
He said the raid also targeted alcoholic beverages, sharp weapons and narcotics, as well as youths racing their cars and motorbikes through the streets.
The police have also seized two sharp weapons and around 100 motorbikes used in illegal races, he said, adding that they also found more than 565 narcotic pills.
Sudjarno said the raid would continue until after Ramadhan. --Antara
