Police seize evidence, trace money flows in Central Jakarta false imprisonment case

The General Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimum) of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, in collaboration with the Central Jakarta Metro Police, has seized several crucial pieces of evidence, including electronic documents, and is tracing fund flows related to a case of confinement and extortion involving seven suspects.

“All evidence found at the crime scene has been seized by investigators and shows consistency between the physical evidence and witness statements,” said the Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday.

Iman revealed that one of the strongest pieces of evidence in this case is electronic documentation, specifically video recordings as well as WhatsApp chat histories and telephone call logs.

“This digital evidence clearly demonstrates the communication between the perpetrators and the specific role each suspect played in carrying out their criminal actions together,” he said.

In addition to digital evidence, the investigative team has also successfully traced and gathered clues in the form of fund flows or money transfer transactions.

“We have also found and collected clues from investigators regarding the fund flows or transfers made, which provide evidence of the extortion carried out by the suspects against the victims,” Iman stated.

Based on the results of witness examinations and the matching of evidence, the seven suspects were proven to have restricted the freedom of the victims.

“They confined and shackled the victims, demanded ransoms, and even restricted access to basic necessities, such as withholding food for certain periods,” he added.

Furthermore, Iman stated that the investigative team is still conducting a deeper investigation regarding information about alleged similar criminal incidents that may have occurred at the same location previously.

“Regarding this information, we are still conducting further investigations and gathering other pieces of evidence. If other suspected criminal acts of the same nature against different victims are found, the investigators will certainly carry out maximum investigative efforts,” said Iman.
