Police seize eight motorcycles suspected for illegal street racing in East Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - A joint patrol team from the Brimob B Pioneer Battalion of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, alongside the Presisi Pioneer Team of the East Jakarta Metro Police, seized eight motorcycles suspected of being intended for illegal street racing in the Jalan Jenderal RS Soekanto area, Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, in the early hours of Wednesday.
Commander of the Brimob Metro Jaya Regional Police, Kombes Pol Henik Maryanto, stated that the seizure took place when officers discovered a group of youths gathered at a location known to be a frequent hotspot for illegal racing activities around 02:00 WIB.
“During the patrol, officers found several vehicles indicated to be used in illegal racing actions. Eight motorcycles were subsequently secured to prevent activities that potentially endanger safety,” Henik said in a statement in Jakarta on Wednesday.
He mentioned that routine patrols are being increased as an anticipatory measure against various disturbances to public security and order (kamtibmas) that frequently emerge from night to the early morning.
According to him, illegal racing not only disturbs public order and the comfort of residents at rest but also poses a high risk of causing traffic accidents that can lead to fatalities.
“We continue to be present through integrated patrols to prevent various potential security disturbances. This effort is undertaken so that the community can carry out activities and rest safely without being disturbed by illegal racing or other violations,” said Henik.
Furthermore, he revealed that all seized vehicles have now been handed over to the Traffic Unit (Satlantas) of the East Jakarta Metro Police for further inspection and enforcement in accordance with applicable regulations.
He also urged the public to be proactive in maintaining a conducive environment and to immediately report through the National Police emergency service 110 if they encounter illegal racing, brawls, or other disturbances to public security in their local area.
