Police Seize Dozens of Motorcycles Allegedly Involved in Convoy on Casablanca Flyover
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) has seized dozens of motorcycles allegedly involved in a convoy on the Casablanca Non-Toll Flyover (JLNT), which had gone viral on social media.
Head of the Law Enforcement Sub-directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Directorate, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Ojo Ruslani, confirmed the matter in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.
“Eleven motorcycles out of the dozens seen in the video have been successfully seized,” Ojo said.
However, Ojo was unable to provide further details as the investigation is still ongoing.
Previously, the Traffic Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police had been investigating the destruction of the JLNT Casablanca access barriers in South Jakarta, allegedly carried out by a group of motorcyclists.
“We are currently investigating the group of riders,” said Jakarta Metropolitan Police Traffic Director Senior Commissioner Komarudin in a statement in Jakarta on Monday (23/2).
He explained that his office is coordinating with the General Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police to identify potential criminal charges related to the destruction.
“It is suspected that damage occurred to public facilities, namely the forced opening of the JLNT Casablanca barriers,” the account wrote.
Previously, the Jakarta Transportation Agency had conducted a limited trial closure of JLNT Casablanca from 1-15 April 2024.
As an alternative route for vehicles coming from the west (Tanah Abang) or from the east (Casablanca), motorists can use the lower road along Prof. Dr Satrio.
All road users have also been urged to comply with the established traffic regulations, obey traffic signs, follow instructions from officers on the ground, and prioritise road safety.
