Police Seize Documents and Computers in 13th Raid of Corruption Case

Jakarta (ANTARA) — A joint team of investigators from the National Police (Polri) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) seized a number of documents and computer equipment from an unoccupied shop-house (ruko) in the Cipete area of South Jakarta, the 13th location searched in the investigation into three suspected corruption cases.

“Many documents are now being secured by the investigators, including a computer and other items. We have not yet been able to identify and inventory everything that has been secured,” said the head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s public relations division, Commissioner Budi Hermanto, when met on Friday.

Budi explained that to secure the evidence, police officers who arrived at the shop-house, located on Jalan Asem 2 in Cipete Selatan, had to cut the chain on the door in order to search the building up to its third floor.

“Investigators made sure that the forced entry proceeded smoothly and was purely for investigative purposes, given that the three-storey shop-house was found to be unoccupied,” he said.

Although the building was empty, Budi stressed that the search was carried out transparently and in accordance with applicable legal procedures. Officers also invited local neighbourhood officials to witness the search directly.

“Witnesses from the local community are here to see that the search process was shown a search warrant and a court order,” he said.

The shop-house is the 13th location to be searched in the “Join Investigation” conducted by the Corruption Crime Eradication Corps (Kortastipidkor) and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police. The discovery of the location resulted from leads developed from witness testimony, case reviews, and searches of the previous 12 locations.

Police said they did not rule out adding new search locations as the legal process continues. The police are also committed to keeping the public informed of developments in the case to maintain transparency in the investigation.

The joint team from Polri and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police carried out another search as part of the investigation into suspected corruption and money laundering (TPPU) involving PT PLN (Persero), PT Asabri (Persero) and PT Krakatau Steel.

Commissioner Budi Hermanto, head of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police’s public relations division, confirmed in Jakarta on Friday that a search had been carried out by the National Police’s Corruption Crime Eradication Corps and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police.

“That is correct,” Budi said.

However, Budi could not yet provide details about the search, as the investigation is still ongoing.
