Police Seize Digital Evidence and Trace Fund Flows in Central Jakarta False Imprisonment Case
The Directorate of General Criminal Investigation (Ditreskrimum) of Polda Metro Jaya, together with the Central Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit, is continuing to build its case in the alleged false imprisonment and extortion at the Mau Print shop in Central Jakarta. Investigators have seized a number of crucial pieces of evidence, ranging from electronic documents to tracing the fund flows of the suspects’ transactions.
Director of General Criminal Investigation at Polda Metro Jaya, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanuddin, stated that all evidence found at the crime scene has been confiscated. According to him, there is a strong correlation between the evidence and the statements given by the witnesses who have been examined.
“All evidence found at the scene has been seized by investigators and shows a correspondence between the evidence or exhibits and the witness statements,” Iman said during a press conference in Jakarta on Friday (3/7/2026).
Iman revealed that electronic documents constitute one of the strongest pieces of evidence in this case. This evidence includes video recordings, conversation histories from the WhatsApp messaging application, and telephone call logs.
“This digital evidence clearly shows the communication between the perpetrators and the respective roles of the suspects acting together in carrying out their crimes,” he stated.
In addition to digital evidence, the investigative team successfully traced clues in the form of fund flows or money transfer transactions. These transactions serve as tangible proof of the extortion committed by the seven suspects against the victim and the victim’s family.
Based on the investigation results, the seven suspects were proven to have restricted the victims’ freedom by confining them, shackling them, demanding ransom money, and withholding basic necessities such as food for a certain period.
The police are currently investigating information regarding alleged similar criminal incidents that may have occurred previously at the same location. Iman emphasised that investigators will continue to gather additional evidence to ascertain whether there are other victims in this case.
“We are still investigating this information and collecting other evidence. If other similar criminal acts involving different victims are found, investigators will certainly make maximum efforts to investigate,” Iman concluded.
To date, seven individuals have been named as suspects and detained to account for their actions related to the alleged extortion, threats, and deprivation of liberty. The Central Jakarta Metro Police have examined 17 witnesses and applied scientific crime investigation methods in handling the case. The police also revealed that three of the seven suspects, including the shop owner, are related by family ties.
