Police seize bows and firecrackers in East Jakarta brawl on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Road
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - East Jakarta Metropolitan Police dispersed a brawl on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Road in East Jakarta on Monday morning (25/5/2026). Officers seized suspected weapons used in the altercation. “Evidence seized included three firecrackers, five bows, and one slingshot projectile,” said East Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Kombes Alfian Nurriza in a written statement on Monday (25/5/2026). “Patrol Team Presisi C and D, along with Brimob personnel, swiftly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officers successfully dispersed the brawl, restoring order,” he added. Following the dispersal, the situation gradually returned to normal. Officers conducted further checks and secured the Bonsi Integrated Post to prevent potential disturbances to public security and order. “East Jakarta Metropolitan Police urged the public to promptly report any security threats for swift handling,” Alfian stated. Earlier, a brawl erupted on I Gusti Ngurah Rai Road in East Jakarta at around 5:00 AM on Monday. According to Kompas.com’s monitoring, the brawl involving residents of Kebon Singkong and Kampung Jagal had concluded. However, remnants of the altercation were still visible around Klender Station, with joint police, military, and civil police units maintaining a presence in the area. A resident, Agus (not his real name), said the brawl lasted from 5:00 AM to 7:00 AM. “From what I know, when people from across the railway (Kampung Jagal) started setting off fireworks, the brawl erupted immediately,” Agus said at the scene on 25/5/2026. He observed some Kebon Singkong residents being hit by stones during the clash. “Yes, some were hit by stones on the head. As far as I know, no one died, as I was observing from a distance,” he added.
