Police seize another grenade

JAKARTA (JP): Police seized another hand grenade from a house in Taman Harapan Indah Bloc Q/35, Jelambar, West Jakarta, Saturday after two active hand grenades were found in Megamendung, Bogor, and Cililitan, East Jakarta on Feb. 9.

Chief of the Jakarta Police Detectives Col. Paimin Aboemr said yesterday the owner of the grenade, David bin Poniman, 32, was also arrested during a pre-dawn raid at his brother's house in Jelambar.

In a similar raid hours earlier on David's house in Cipayung, Bogor, West Java, the police found a broad-bladed knife and a radio communications unit in his bedroom. The suspect was not at home when the raid took place.

Police also found a damaged car, believed to have been the suspect's, not far from his house.

Paimin said Friday two South Korean Frag Delay K75 grenades were found on Feb. 9 at the homes of two men, Saleh Abdulah, 37, of Megamendung, West Java, and Abdul Aziz Umar Madhie, 31, of Cililitan, East Jakarta.

He said that Abdul and David had admitted knowing Saleh and had got the grenade from him. All three grenades were of the same type.

"The police had a tipoff that someone might have seven hand grenades and plan to take them to the Takbir Akbar mass gathering at Monas Square on Feb. 8," Paimin said yesterday.

But Saleh told police there were only three grenades which were kept by the three men, Paimin said.

The three men, David, Saleh and Abdul have been detained for illegally possessing grenades. (04)
