Police Seize 9 Tonnes of Expired Imported Lamb Meat Ahead of Eid, Target Distribution in Tangerang and Jakarta
The Criminal Investigation Body (Bareskrim) of the Indonesian National Police has uncovered a scheme involving the distribution of nine tonnes of expired frozen imported lamb meat, allegedly intended for traditional markets in the Tangerang and Jakarta regions for public consumption ahead of the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 celebrations.
Senior Commander of the Mobile Criminal Investigation Unit of Bareskrim, Police Commissioner Teuku Arsya Khadafi, announced during a press conference in Tangerang on Monday that investigators have identified four suspects in the case. Each suspect has a specific role: IY as the seller and owner of the expired meat, T and AR as brokers, and SS as the producer or buyer.
“This case originated from a report regarding food trading activities involving imported lamb carcass meat from Australia that was allegedly expired,” Khadafi stated.
According to Khadafi, based on initial enforcement action by the Mobile Criminal Investigation Unit, investigators conducted a raid seizing three trucks containing expired imported lamb meat from Australia in the Kosambi warehouse area of Tangerang.
The investigation was subsequently expanded to include two storage locations: Warehouse 1 at Poris Block B1, Batuceper, Tangerang City, and Warehouse 2 at Jl. Raya Serang No. 8, Cikupa, Tangerang Regency, Banten.
“As a result of the investigation, the Mobile Investigation Unit has secured ten witnesses and pieces of evidence,” Khadafi explained.
The operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 12.9 tonnes of expired lamb meat. The three box trucks contained 154 cardboard boxes with a total weight of 2,548.36 kilograms, 157 boxes weighing 2,411.69 kilograms, and 148 boxes weighing 4,052.99 kilograms.
