Police seize 13,000 cu. m. of timber

SAMARINDA, East Kalimantan: A top police officer revealed on Wednesday that police had seized some 13,000 cubic meters of illegal timber in Talisayan forest, Berau regency, East Kalimantan, in an operation at the end of May.

East Kalimantan Provincial Police chief Insp. Gen. Budi Utomo said that police arrested five people after the operation, three of whom were owners of three timber companies, while two others were company employees.

This year alone, the police had arrested 54 illegal logging suspects, including the five, he said. -- JP
