Police seize 1 kg marijuana
DENPASAR, Bali: The Denpasar Police narcotics unit made another big catch on Monday afternoon, when its officers arrested an alleged drug dealer and seized at least one kilogram of marijuana from him.
The man, identified as Rudy Setiawan, alias Candra Kirana of Medan, North Sumatra, was arrested as he received the marijuana, which was sent in a package by post from Medan. The marijuana was found among salted fish and clothing.
It was the second arrest of a North Sumatra resident in connection with drug trafficking in less than a month. Earlier this month, police here arrested Alphones Simbolon and confiscated 2.2 kilograms of heroin from the Asahan native. Last week, anti-drug officers arrested three foreigners for their alleged involvement in a drug syndicate.
Denpasar Police detectives chief Comr. Budi Wasono said the arrest of Rudy followed a tip-off from the National Police Headquarters in Jakarta.
A group of plainclothes officers were dispatched to Ngurah Rai Airport to check all packages coming from Medan. Posing as cargo workers, they delivered the package addressed to a house on Jl. Tangkuban Perahu. Rudy confessed the marijuana belonged to him. -- JP
