Police Secure Two Women in Lebak After Alleged Forced Swearing by Stepping on the Quran
A viral video has circulated showing two women allegedly committing religious blasphemy by stepping on the Quran. Both have now been secured by the police.
Based on information received, the two women are initials NR and MT, residents of Sukaraja Village, Malingping Subdistrict, Lebak Regency. In the viral video, NR is seen forcing MT to swear by stepping on the Quran.
The Head of Public Relations of Lebak Police Resort, IPTU Moestafa Ibnu Syafir, said the incident occurred on Wednesday (8/4/2026). The incident began with NR’s accusation claiming the loss of makeup tools and accusing MT as the perpetrator. When MT denied the accusation, NR then forced MT to swear by stepping on the Quran.
“So they are actually friends, the salon owner ordered a package which was then stored. This owner accused the initial MT, because not satisfied with the confession then performed the Quran oath,” said Moestafa when confirmed, Saturday (11/4/2026).
Moestafa said NR and MT are now secured by the Criminal Investigation Unit of Lebak Police Resort to undergo intensive examination. He stated that NR could be charged with the article on religious blasphemy.
“It could be according to the law like that,” he said.
Nevertheless, he said that currently the police have not determined suspect status. The examination process is still ongoing.
“Until now, no suspect has been determined, still following developments,” he said.
His side also urged the public to remain calm and not provoked regarding this case. The police assure that the handling of this case will be carried out professionally and transparently.
“We assure that the handling of this case is carried out professionally and thoroughly by the Criminal Investigation Unit. We also urge the public to remain calm, not provoked, and fully trust the handling of this matter to the police,” said Moestafa.
