Police Secure Three Assault Suspects During Confrontation in TPKS Case
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Metro Jaya Regional Police secured three individuals involved in an assault during the confrontation between the suspect and several witnesses in the handling of a suspected sexual violence offence (TPKS) case.
The Head of Public Relations of the Metro Jaya Regional Police, Commissioner Pol Budi Hermanto, explained that the incident began when both parties arrived with supporting crowds during the confrontation held on Thursday (26/3).
“From the start, we anticipated the potential for friction because both parties arrived with escorts. The investigators immediately took firm steps by separating both parties so that the situation remained under control,” Budi said in a statement received on Tuesday.
From the information gathered, the tension was not only triggered by the matter being discussed but was also influenced by other issues outside the case.
“One of the parties allegedly involved in the assault is known to have another case with the suspect, which further provoked emotions leading to violent actions,” Budi stated.
In response to the incident, the Sub-Directorate of Rasan Jatan from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Metro Jaya Regional Police acted swiftly and arrested the three assault perpetrators to be processed in accordance with applicable legal provisions.
“The handling of this case is ensured to proceed professionally, proportionately, and measurably, while prioritising protection for the victim and maintaining security and public order,” Budi remarked.
Regarding the case being confronted, he explained that it involves the suspect with initials F, reported by the victim with initials RIS, which occurred on 30 October 2022 in the directors’ meeting room on the second floor of the DPP Bapera Building, Central Jakarta.
Several witnesses have been examined, including forensic experts, clinical psychologists, and experts in sexual violence offences to strengthen the evidence.
The investigators affirmed that all stages of case handling are conducted carefully, professionally, and accountably, while keeping the situation safe and conducive.
