Jakarta — The Head of the National Police Traffic Corps (Kakorlantas), Inspector General Agus Suryonugroho, announced that his personnel are securing five strategic clusters during Operation Ketupat 2026 to ensure that Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr celebrations proceed safely. The security measures are being implemented across various points of public mobility during the homecoming travel period.

Agus explained that the five clusters under security focus include toll roads, arterial roads, crossing areas such as ports, and other transport hubs including terminals, airports, and stations. Additionally, security efforts are concentrated on places of worship and tourist destinations across various regions.

“Nevertheless, there are five clusters that we must secure in accordance with the National Police Chief’s directives. First are toll roads, second are arterial roads, third are port crossing areas, including terminals, airports, stations, places of worship, and tourist destinations,” said the Kakorlantas following a mass police mobilisation rally for Operation Ketupat 2026 in commemoration of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H at the National Monument in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March 2026).

Agus explained that Operation Ketupat is not solely focused on traffic management during the outbound and return travel surges. The police also ensure that community social and religious activities during Ramadan through Eid al-Fitr proceed safely.

Security encompasses various community activities that increase during the Lebaran holiday period, including religious observances and tourism activities.

“This Operation Ketupat is not merely a traffic operation, nor is it solely about securing outbound and return travel flows. Rather, it is about how the police, as a state institution, are present to ensure that these social and spiritual moments are entirely secure,” stated Agus.

The police have prepared security posts, service posts, and integrated posts to serve travellers during the homecoming period. These posts begin operating as Operation Ketupat 2026 commences.

Agus stated that traffic flow monitoring is conducted with technological support to facilitate surveillance across various homecoming routes.

“We will monitor using Electronic Traffic Law Enforcement (ETLE), drones, and body cameras will be deployed to serve the public,” explained the Kakorlantas.

Traffic management strategies have also been prepared to anticipate the surge in vehicles during the outbound travel period. Contraflow schemes and one-way systems will be implemented based on vehicle volume monitoring results on toll road sections.

This monitoring is conducted through a traffic counting system to determine traffic management measures in phases.

“If traffic remains congested, if there are still long queues, we will implement the first phase of one-way traffic from kilometre 70 to 236,” said Agus.
