Police Secure Central Jakarta's Jalan Tambak After Deadly Clash, Personnel on Standby
Police are on guard along Jalan Tambak, Menteng, Central Jakarta, following a deadly clash that occurred on Sunday morning. In addition to police, military personnel have also been deployed to secure the area.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Reynold EP Hutagalung stated that his unit, along with Menteng Police, the 0501/Jakarta Pusat Military District Command, and operational control support personnel from Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya, have been stationed at the location. “Today, we from the Central Jakarta Police, Kodim 0501, and Menteng Police, fully supported by personnel from Polda Metro Jaya and Kodam Jaya, are conducting security operations to create a conducive situation in the Jalan Tambak, Menteng area,” Reynold said.
He explained that the clash began around 10:00 a.m. due to a dispute between a group of people and Matraman residents. The commotion then shifted to Jalan Tambak and escalated into a stone-throwing fight. As a result of the incident, two individuals were evacuated to Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital. One person, identified by the initial K (23), died, while the other victim is still undergoing treatment.
“As of tonight, we can confirm the situation is safe and conducive. We are providing a sense of security and comfort to the residents, especially in the Tambak, Matraman, and Menteng areas,” he stated. According to Reynold, police will continue to patrol to maintain security and follow up on any public reports that could potentially disrupt public order. He added that the investigation into the cause of the clash is ongoing to determine all parties involved in accordance with legal procedures. “We are enforcing the law so that both sides, whether residents or the group of people who became victims, can receive fair treatment in the legal process,” he said.
