Jakarta — Police are currently tracing the suspected perpetrator who threw caustic acid at KontraS Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus through a helmet discovered near the crime scene.

The Director of General Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Iman Imanudin, stated that authorities have also recovered a container believed to have been used to hold the caustic acid.

“We are hopeful that the forensic laboratory examination results will hopefully reveal fingerprints and DNA from the perpetrator that are attached to the helmet,” Iman stated during a press conference at Metro Jaya Police Headquarters on Monday (16 March 2026).

Based on the helmet discovery, police have mapped the perpetrator’s movements. Thousands of CCTV recordings have been compiled for analysis.

The perpetrator’s movements appear to have extended to Kalibata, Ragunan, in South Jakarta, and to Bogor.

“With a duration of 10,320 minutes, we will need several days to conduct digital analysis of the CCTV recordings along the entire route taken by the perpetrator,” said Iman.

This investigation is being conducted to strengthen suspicions against four perpetrators captured on CCTV near the crime scene.

Previously, Andrie Yunus was sprayed with caustic acid by an unknown assailant whilst he was riding a motorbike on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta.

As he passed the location, two perpetrators riding a motorbike, allegedly a Honda Beat model manufactured between 2016 and 2021, reportedly approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge).

The second perpetrator, riding as a passenger, was wearing a face covering or buff-style mask in black that covered half of his face, a dark blue t-shirt, and blue trousers that were folded to knee length and allegedly made of denim.

One of the perpetrators then sprayed caustic acid towards the victim, hitting parts of his body.

Andrie sustained chemical burns on both hands, his face, chest, and eyes.
