Police search bus driver

JAKARTA: Bogor Police are still searching for the driver and assistant of a Benteng Jaya bus, which was involved in a fatal accident in Cisarua, Bogor, on Saturday.

Both the driver and assistant are currently at large following the accident, in which two passengers were killed and 13 injured.

According to witness Agus Muharam, 38, the bus apparently lost control and attempted to stop by plowing into a Panther car. The Panther and another Toyota Kijang van plunged into a pool at the side of the road.

The bus later hit 14 other cars and motorbikes. It finally stopped after hitting a Suzuki and a tree. The driver and his assistant managed to escape.

The victims were submitted to a nearby hospital. They were later sent to the Red Cross Hospital in Bogor. Two of the victims remained at the hospital until Sunday afternoon.

Adj. Sr. Comr. M Taufik, chief of Bogor Police, said the accident was allegedly due to brake failure. -- JP
