Police Schedule Examination of Building Owner on Thursday in Case of Four Workers' Deaths at TB Simatupang
JAKARTA – After examining two project foremen, the police will question the owner of the building where four workers were found dead on Friday (3/4/2026).
The Head of the Special Criminal Investigation Unit of the Jakarta Selatan Police Resort Criminal Investigation Unit, AKP Indra Darmawan, stated that Jagakarsa Police Sector has scheduled the examination for Thursday (9/4/2026).
“For the planned examination from the building side on the coming Thursday,” said Indra when met at the Jakarta Selatan Police Resort on Tuesday (7/4/2026).
Additionally, the DKI Jakarta Manpower Agency, the Ministry of Manpower, and the Forensic Laboratory of the National Police Criminal Investigation Agency are also processing the crime scene to investigate the project conditions.
Currently, project activities at the building have been temporarily halted until the case handling is completed.
The four victims are respectively initialled YN (32), MW (62), TS (63), and MF (19).
Meanwhile, three other workers are suspected of inhaling gas from inside the water reservoir, leading to breathing difficulties. They are U (41), AJ (37), and S (63).
“Correct, there was a discovery of bodies this afternoon. They are currently being autopsied,” said Iskandar to Kompas.com on Friday.
The Jagakarsa Police Sector Chief, AKP Nurma Dewi, explained that the incident began when one worker fell into the gelontong or clean water reservoir while dismantling its cover.
The situation worsened when other workers attempted to carry out the evacuation in turns.
According to witness testimony initialled DPA, who was also ordered to assist in the evacuation, the conditions around the reservoir hole felt abnormal.
It is suspected that the dangerous gas accumulated inside the water reservoir was the main cause of the victims losing consciousness and ultimately dying.
