Police say woman found dead in Serang garden was hanged while still alive
Yes, she was still alive when she fainted,” said the head of the Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit, Monday (25 May 2026). Detective Inspector Angga Kusuma Wardana of the Serang City Police’s Criminal Investigation and Tracking Unit stated the incident occurred a week before the victim’s body was discovered on Monday (18 May) at around 5 PM. They had arranged to meet in a garden in Gelam Village at approximately 3 AM. During the meeting, the victim made remarks that angered the suspect. The suspect, who was in a relationship with the victim, reportedly had no money or mokondo. “First, he struck her from behind. After the victim fainted, the suspect panicked and staged a suicide by hanging,” said Angga. The suspect took a rope from under the motorcycle seat, which had previously been used to tie his child’s bicycle. “He took a rope and hanged the victim around the neck on a tangkil tree,” he said. Previously, Police Commissioner Alfano Ramadhan stated that police were investigating the case after the victim was found hanging on Monday (18 May) at around 5 PM. Officers discovered multiple injuries on the body. “Based on the crime scene examination and autopsy results, the victim, BY, is suspected to have died unnaturally due to multiple injuries,” said Alfano. A joint team from Serang City Police and Cipocok Jaya Police Station interviewed several witnesses. Additionally, police recovered the victim’s missing mobile phone as evidence. Police are searching for AS, who was not at his residence in Gelam Village, Cipocok Jaya Subdistrict. According to reports, AS fled to the jurisdiction of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, specifically in South Tangerang. “The suspect will be taken to the Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit for further questioning,” he said. AS is charged under Sections 459 and 458 of the Indonesian Criminal Code (KUHP) concerning premeditated murder and/or murder. “Investigators from the Serang City Police Criminal Investigation Unit are currently deepening their inquiry and conducting further examinations into the motive and sequence of the criminal act,” Alfano said.
