Police Say Machete Attack Suspects in Mataram Had a Weapon Stash
Police have named 13 suspects in a machete attack on Udayana Street in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB). Police said the suspects had a place to store the sharp weapons they used.
Mataram Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKP I Made Dharma Yulia Putra said the weapons were stored in locations around the Udayana area. Officers also found a sickle at a food stall where the suspects often gathered.
“We have checked and there are indeed several points where the suspects stored [the weapons]. Yesterday we also found two in the Udayana area. If I’m not mistaken, one was at the food stall, where we seized the sickle,” Dharma said on Wednesday (28 October 2026).
Dharma said police had questioned the stall owner, who, he said, did not know about the activities of the suspects, most of whom were teenagers.
“We questioned him [the stall owner]; he did not know what they were doing. What is clear is that the [weapon] was stored there without the owner’s knowledge,” he added.
Three people were injured in the attack on Udayana Street in Mataram on Sunday (25 October). One of them later died.
Two victims, Fahmi Abdurrachman Heyder, 14, and Muhammad Gilang Hidayat, 16, were injured. The third victim, Muhammad Gibran Anugrah Aditya, 14, died after receiving treatment at Mataram City Regional General Hospital (RSUD Kota Mataram).
Police initially arrested 15 people suspected of involvement in the case. Following a case review, they named 13 suspects: MA, 16; IR, 17; ZA, 17; KA, 16; SH, 16; JN, 16; DS, 14; GS, 17; MI, 15; RP, 17; RF, 18; YH, 19; and SR, 18.
Police also seized a number of weapons belonging to the suspects, including six arrows, a metal slingshot, a corbek, a badik, a machete, a sickle and homemade weapons.
“Some of the weapons were also assembled by the suspects. They were modified using pipes, while some were bought online,” he said.
