Police: Richard Lee Does Not Reflect a Law-Abiding Citizen
Jakarta — A doctor and owner of a beauty clinic, Richard Lee, has been detained by the Metro Jaya Police over consumer protection violations related to his beauty products. Public relations head of Metro Jaya Police, Senior Commissioner Budi Hermanto, said Richard Lee was not cooperative and impeded the investigation. “In essence, the results of the examination show that the individual does not reflect a citizen who respects and upholds the law,” Budi said when contacted on Saturday, 7 March 2026. Hermanto added that Richard Lee preferred to conduct live TikTok broadcasts rather than comply with police summons. “According to information provided by DRL that the person conducted live TikTok sessions on his own account to promote products of CV Athena as part of his work,” said Budi. Previously, Richard Lee was officially detained after being questioned as a suspect in a case of suspected consumer-protection violations related to his beauty products. He was reported to the Metro Jaya Police by cosmetic doctor Samira, known as the Doctor Detective. In this case, Richard is charged under Article 455 in conjunction with Article 138(2) of Law No. 17 of 2023 on Health, with a potential penalty of up to 12 years’ imprisonment or a fine of up to Rp 5 billion. In addition, he faces charges under Article 62(1) in conjunction with Article 8(1) and/or Article 9(1) of Law No. 8 of 1999 on Consumer Protection, with a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment and a fine of up to Rp 2 billion. Separately, Samira was also previously named as a suspect in a defamation case filed by Richard Lee with South Jakarta Police on 12 December 2025.
