Police Reveal Woman's Death in Tangerang Was Murder, Not Suicide

Kapolresta Tangerang Kombes Muhammad Indra Waspada Amirullah revealed that the first irregularity was the position of the victim’s feet, who was initially thought to have died by hanging. ‘Investigators found several irregularities. Among them, the victim’s body was found hanging, but the soles of her feet were still touching the floor,’ Indra said on Tuesday (11/8/2026). The victim’s body was discovered hanging by local residents in a rented house on Tuesday (19/5). Due to this irregularity, the police immediately investigated the case and did not stop at the assumption of suicide. Police then examined the victim’s mobile phone and traced communications with several parties. From this, it was revealed that the victim had been in contact with a man with the initial A, who turned out to be her boyfriend. ‘From the series of investigations, investigators found communication via the WhatsApp application between the victim and a man with the initial A,’ Indra explained. The communication between the two occurred on Sunday (17/5), two days before the victim was found dead. At that time, the perpetrator contacted the victim to arrange a meeting on Monday (18/5) at a minimarket in the Bitung area, Cikupa. After meeting at the minimarket, the perpetrator and the victim went to the victim’s rented house. ‘Investigators then delved deeper into the communication and matched it with CCTV footage and other information obtained during the investigation process,’ Indra said. The investigation led to A, aged 30. Then on Saturday (1/8/2026), investigators examined A and subsequently named him a suspect. ‘From the results of the examination and cross-checking, A finally admitted his involvement in the incident,’ said Indra Waspada. Indra stated that during the meeting at the rented house, the victim, who was pregnant, asked the perpetrator to take responsibility by marrying her. ‘However, the suspect, who was already married, was unwilling to fulfil this request,’ said Indra Waspada. The suspect then used violence by strangling the victim’s neck with both hands. After the victim lost consciousness, the suspect tied her up using a rope he had previously brought from home. ‘The suspect then made the victim’s condition appear as if she had died by hanging,’ said Indra Waspada.
