A human rights activist from the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), Andrie Yunus, became the victim of an acid attack by two unknown individuals in the Salemba area of central Jakarta on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

Budi Hermanto, head of public relations for the Metro Jaya Regional Police, stated that police are still investigating the suspected involvement of two perpetrators in the incident.

“Yes, according to initial information there are two people who are suspected perpetrators, but we are still investigating this,” Budi told journalists when met at Metro Jaya Police headquarters on Friday, 13 March 2026.

In CCTV footage, a motorcycle ridden by one man with another man as a passenger was seen reversing direction before approaching the victim’s location. After the suspected perpetrators’ motorcycle passed beyond the range of the CCTV camera, a shadowy figure was seen spraying liquid towards the victim.

Shortly after the incident, Andrie pulled over and cried out in pain. He then dropped his motorcycle and removed his equipment, from his helmet to his clothing. The victim’s right shoulder showed visible redness from the liquid that was sprayed.

Several people nearby then came to the victim to ask what had happened.

Budi stated that police are currently conducting surveillance of CCTV footage around the incident location to identify the perpetrators.

Regarding a more complete timeline of events, Budi stated that investigators are still awaiting a statement from the victim, who is currently recovering.
