Police reveal the origin of the number plate used by the perpetrator of the assault at the Cipinang petrol station
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The East Jakarta Police have revealed the origin of the number plate used by the perpetrator, identified as JMH, in the assault on an employee at petrol station 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung.
East Jakarta Police Chief, Commissioner Alfian Nurrizal, explained that the number plate, L 1 XD, which was attached to the perpetrator’s car at the time, was registered to a green Toyota Land Cruiser.
“After we checked, the number plate L 1 XD is registered to a green Toyota Land Cruiser. Meanwhile, the vehicle used by the suspect during the incident was a black Toyota Vellfire,” said Alfian when confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday.
The number plate was found not to belong to the vehicle driven by the perpetrator at the time of the incident.
According to the investigation, the perpetrator borrowed the number plate from an acquaintance. The perpetrator attached the number plate to the car he was driving before stopping at the petrol station to refuel.
“He took or borrowed it from a friend. So, the number plate belongs to someone else,” said Alfian.
The police are currently investigating the reason why the perpetrator used a number plate that did not match the vehicle. This includes the possibility of a specific motive behind the use of the borrowed number plate.
“We are still investigating all matters related to the perpetrator at the location,” said Alfian.
The incident began when one of the operators at petrol station 3413901, Lukman Hakim (19), was on duty on Sunday evening (February 22) at around 10:00 PM.
According to Lukman, the queue of vehicles behind him was getting longer, so he took the initiative to speed up the process by asking for the subsidy barcode, which is a requirement for refuelling according to Pertamina’s procedures.
However, the situation suddenly escalated when the barcode shown did not match the type of vehicle being used.
The commotion continued when Lukman called a staff member to confirm the refuelling policy. The perpetrator became increasingly emotional and pushed one of the staff members, Ahmad Khoirul Anam, causing his head to hit the perpetrator’s car.
The perpetrator then approached another employee and slapped one of their colleagues, Abud Mahmudin, who was trying to calm the situation.
The commotion reportedly lasted quite a long time, estimated to be almost an hour, from around 10:00 PM to almost 11:30 PM.
The East Jakarta Police revealed that the perpetrator of the assault on employees at petrol station 3413901 in Cipinang, Pulogadung, tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana.
The police suspect that the combination of alcohol and narcotics influenced the perpetrator’s condition, causing him to act aggressively.
The perpetrator, JMH, will be charged under Article 466 of the Criminal Code and/or Article 471 of the Criminal Code on assault charges, with a maximum prison sentence of two years and six months.
