Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Task Force for Law Enforcement on Smuggling (Satgas Gakkum) of Polri has revealed the roles of two suspects with initials DCP alias P and SJ in the case of illegal imports of mobile phones and other products from China.

“Two suspects who acted as parties responsible for the process of bringing in illegal imported goods from China and distributing them in the customs area of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Director of Special Economic Crimes (Dirtipideksus) of Bareskrim Polri, Brigjen Pol. Ade Safri Simanjuntak, in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He detailed that suspect DCP alias P acted as the importer who brought goods into Indonesia in a non-new condition and without Indonesian National Standards (SNI) certification.

DCP is suspected of violating articles on criminal acts of trade and/or criminal acts of industry and/or criminal acts regarding standardisation and conformity assessment and/or criminal acts in the telecommunications sector and/or criminal acts in consumer protection and money laundering (TPPU).

Meanwhile, suspect SJ acted as the customer who brought in and distributed goods to Indonesia in a non-new condition.

SJ is suspected of violating suspected criminal acts of trade and/or criminal acts in the telecommunications sector and/or criminal acts in consumer protection and/or money laundering (TPPU).

On Tuesday (21/4), the task force raided the office of PT TSL in Sidoarjo, East Java, as a follow-up to the raid on a warehouse containing thousands of illegal mobile phones in Jakarta earlier.

Ade revealed that PT TSL is a holding company that used several shell companies to handle import documentation for illegal mobile phones.

For the next steps, the task force will deepen and trace other parties suspected of being involved in this illegal importation.

“As per the instructions of the Chief of Police, the task force is committed to developing and tracing all parties responsible for the practice of illegal importation that causes leakage of state financial receipts or harms state assets,” he said.

Previously, in uncovering the case in Jakarta, the Satgas Gakkum Penyelundupan Polri raided six locations consisting of warehouses, shophouses, and offices used as storage for illegal imported goods.

From the raid, investigators seized 56,557 iPhone units worth approximately Rp225.2 billion, 1,625 Android phone units worth Rp5.38 billion, and 18,574 mobile phone accessories with a total value reaching Rp235.08 billion.

In addition, investigators also found other products such as baby clothes and children’s toys that did not meet mandatory SNI standards but had been traded domestically, including through e-commerce platforms.
