Police Reveal Motive Behind Murder of JICT Retiree Ermamto Usman: Purely Economic
Jakarta Metro Police have revealed the motive behind the robbery and murder at the home of JICT retiree Ermamto Usman in Prima Lingkar Asri Housing, Jatibening Village, Pondok Gede District, Bekasi City, on Monday 2 March. According to police, the suspect, identified as S, 28, committed the crime with an economic motivation.
The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation of Jakarta Metro Police, Brigadier General Iman Imanuddin, stated that police found no motive other than theft.
“The murder was committed as part of a theft operation by the suspect,” he said in Jakarta on Wednesday 11 March.
Iman explained that the perpetrator struck Ermamto Usman’s wife twice when discovered entering the house. The wife of Ermamto Usman, he said, had turned on the light. The suspect then attacked her and assaulted Ermamto Usman, who was in bed.
“The suspect immediately attacked the male victim who had just woken up and was sitting on the bed,” Iman stated.
The suspected perpetrator of the robbery and murder at Ermamto Usman’s home faces charges under Article 458 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 (New Criminal Code). Paragraph (3) addresses murder that is accompanied, preceded, or followed by another criminal act.
He is also charged under Article 479 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 1 of 2023 (New Criminal Code), which governs theft by force resulting in death. The perpetrator of the robbery and murder at Ermamto Usman’s home faces a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
