Police Reveal Majority of Buyers of Dangerous Drugs in North Jakarta from Adult Circles
JAKARTA - Police have revealed that the majority of buyers of illegal prescription drugs circulating in North Jakarta come from the adult demographic. This finding is based on examinations of sellers arrested in cases of dangerous drug distribution since early 2026. The Head of Narcotics Unit at the North Jakarta Metropolitan Police Resort, AKBP Ari Galang Saputra, stated that this was determined from interrogations of the secured suspects. He explained that the perpetrators could not confirm any buyers from the children’s demographic due to sales restrictions. “They (the 14 arrested perpetrators) also could not identify any children buying because they likely restricted sales to children, but the majority were indeed adults,” said Galang. From disclosures conducted from January to April 2026, police recorded 14 cases of dangerous drug distribution in North Jakarta involving a total of 14 suspects. Evidence seized included 14,360 tablets of various dangerous drugs, among them Tramadol, Excimer, Trihexyphenidyl, Dextro, up to Alprazolam and Clonazepam. Galang explained that the sellers operated under the guise of grocery stores or cosmetic shops to cover their dangerous drug distribution activities. He also mentioned various methods by which the sellers received supplies of the dangerous drugs. “Currently, investigations are ongoing regarding their sources, as this modus operandi often involves COD, or direct receipt via expedition shipments,” he said. The suspects are known not to be connected to each other and come from different networks. All are not recidivists and are currently detained for further investigation.
