Police Reveal Identities of Two Suspects in Acid Attack on KontraS Activist Andrie Yunus
Jakarta, Kompas.com - Polda Metro Jaya has revealed the identities of two perpetrators who threw acid at KontraS activist Andrie Yunus in the Salemba area, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night (12/3/2026). The two suspects are initialled BHC and MAK. “According to police data, the suspects are initialled BHC and MAK,” said Director of General Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Iman Imanuddin, during a press conference on Wednesday (18/3/2026). The two suspects who threw acid at Andrie Yunus were described as wearing a blue batik shirt and a black T-shirt. One of the suspects changed the batik shirt for a red T-shirt on Jalan Diponegoro. The two other suspects passed through the Matraman Underpass heading towards Jatinegara. “The executors are believed to have been splashed with the liquid, so they both cleaned it with mineral water,” he said. Coordinator of KontraS Working Body, Dimas Bagus Arya, stated that the incident occurred at 23:37 WIB when Andrie Yunus was riding a motorcycle on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Senen, Central Jakarta. As he passed the location, two suspects riding a motorcycle believed to be a Honda Beat model from 2016 to 2021 approached the victim from the opposite direction on Jalan Talang (Talang Bridge). The first suspect, acting as the rider, was wearing a white-blue combination T-shirt, dark trousers believed to be jeans, and a black helmet. One of the suspects then threw acid towards the victim, hitting parts of his body. Andrie suffered burns on his right and left hands, face, chest, and eyes.
