Police Reveal How They Tracked Down Unram Student's Killer

Police have revealed the initial stages of the arrest of the perpetrator in the murder of Universitas Mataram (Unram) student Nadya Dwi Ramadhany, also known as NDR. The suspect, identified as Haikal alias HK (18), was arrested after being on the run for two months.

Mataram Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head, AKP I Made Dharma Yulia Putra, stated that the identification of the murderer began when the victim’s motorcycle was traced. Police developed this information and apprehended Haikal in the Punia area of Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara.

“Initially, officers discovered that the victim’s motorcycle was in the possession of the suspect,” Dharma said on Thursday (30/7/2026). “As a result of this investigation, officers were then able to secure the suspect along with the evidence,” he added.

Upon recovery, the victim’s blue and white Honda Beat Pop motorcycle had been dismantled by Haikal. The licence plate had been removed, the front frame cover had been taken off, and the exhaust had been replaced with a noisy aftermarket exhaust.

Based on the investigation, Haikal is a repeat offender. Information gathered indicates that Haikal had previous run-ins with the law before the age of 18. “The suspect is known to be a recidivist in a theft case,” Dharma stated.

For context, Nadya was found dead in her boarding room in the Gomong area, Selaparang District, Mataram City, on 17 May. The Unram student, originally from Beru Village, Sumbawa Regency, was discovered by a friend who had come looking for her. Her body was found lying on its back and was already decomposing. At the time, the door to her boarding room was locked, and her mobile phone and motorcycle were missing.
