Police Reveal Facts About Japanese National Detained at Tamansari Police Station Over Pedophilia Allegations

Jakarta, Kompas.com - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police (Polda Metro Jaya) disclosed facts concerning a Japanese national who was briefly detained at Tamansari Sector Police Station, West Jakarta, in relation to reports of alleged pedophilia and child exploitation that went viral on social media.

Public Relations Director of Polda Jaya, Kombes Pol Budi Hermanto, said that information circulating on social media claimed the man was arrested by police in August 2025 before being released.

From police inquiries, there was indeed a Japanese national who had been arrested in the Tamansari area.

However, the results of the investigation did not find elements of pedophilia or child prostitution.

The woman connected to him is known to be an adult.

The Japanese national was subsequently released because the case did not point to pedophilia.

Budi explained that the relationship between the two parties was conducted consensually, without coercion or violence.

Nevertheless, the police are still pursuing the alleged pedophilia and child exploitation practices reported to have occurred in several areas of Jakarta.

“We will continue to explore. So far there is no valid information about where, when, and who the victims are,” Budi said.

He urged the public to report if they have information or come across alleged child exploitation practices as widely discussed on social media.

Regarding the issue of alleged child prostitution by a Japanese national in the Blok M area, South Jakarta, it first gained traction on the platform X.

Several accounts posted Japanese-language testimonies alleging the existence of child prostitution in Jakarta.

In one post it was claimed that they deliberately sought underage girls aged around 16 to 17.

Another post mentioned that the children who were the subject of prostitution were found on the outskirts of Jakarta with a tariff of Rp 200,000.
