Police Reveal Ermanto Usman Beaten to Death with Crowbar in Bekasi
A retired employee of Jakarta International Container Terminal (JICT), Ermanto Usman, and his wife were attacked and left covered in blood at their residence in Bekasi. Ermanto was beaten to death with a crowbar.
“From initial interrogation, the perpetrator struck the victim with a crowbar and disposed of the crowbar in an empty plot of land in front of the victim’s house,” said Director of Criminal Investigation of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes Iman Imanuddin, to journalists on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
The incident occurred on Monday, 2 March. The perpetrator was apprehended by the Metro Jaya Police Special Crimes Unit at 18:54 on Monday, 9 March, in Cilincing, North Jakarta.
Police are still investigating the motive behind the murder. The perpetrator is undergoing interrogation at Metro Jaya Police headquarters.
Previously, Ermanto and his wife were discovered covered in blood by their son. Normally, their son would be woken up for the pre-dawn meal during Ramadan by his parents. However, on this occasion, he was not woken up until 04:00 WIB.
“When he woke up he was shocked, thinking it would soon be time for the Ramadan fast-breaking meal, so he went downstairs. When he went down, he found no response, the lights were still off,” said a police official.
At that time, the son could hear his mother’s voice briefly. However, when he approached the room, the door handle was already damaged and could not be opened.
“Eventually he went outside to ask for help from the neighbours. There were no neighbours around as it was early morning. So he called his family members, and when they arrived, they broke open the window,” said Head of Criminal Investigation of Metro Bekasi City Police, Kompol Andi Muhammad Iqbal, on Monday, 2 March.
When discovered, Ermanto was already dead and covered in blood. Meanwhile, his wife sustained severe injuries and is currently in critical condition at the hospital.
